Taking an electric vehicle is not an easy job. You need to calculate the cost of your charging the vehicle. Calculating the charging cost is not easy. It gets hard with every state. As each state has different charging networks and devices. And their prices vary from each other.
When you take an electric vehicle on the trip, it takes more than one charge to keep going. You need to charge your vehicle several times. Mostly one charge goes 200 per mile.
The total cost of charging your electric vehicle on the road trip can go from $10 to $20-$30. The cost can go up and down depending upon your charging device.
Which means that the cost of a trip on a gas vehicle is the same as the electric vehicle. But there are some factors which are going to complicate the process.
Charging cost
The charging cost of an electric vehicle comes from 10 $ to 30 $. This cost comes like this if you charge your battery from a commercial charger from empty to completely full. When you charge your vehicle at home, it does not cost much but charging it on a road trip will cost you more because of different charging rates of each state.
However, the charging cost can also vary from the fuel cost of the internal combustion vehicles. Multiple factors can put an effect on the cost. Let’s take a look at all of them.
● The rate of charging your card commercially can vary from charging it locally. The residential cost is not very expensive but the commercial cost can vary up to 50%. Same goes for the gas prices but the gas price can vary for only 10%. But commercially the charging cost for electric vehicles goes really high.
● The charging time also varies due to the level of charger and the health of the battery. Sometimes the charger does not charge your batteries in a fast way. That’s why it takes time to charge your battery completely.
● You cannot completely compare the chargers and their pricing as each state has different commercial prices for commercial charging. When you take the amount at the per kilowatt hour then the charging time and price changes drastically.
The EV chargers come in three different types of tears. Each level is different from the first. The change in levels also causes change in the charging time as well as the prices of the charging.
There are certain factors that you need to keep in mind. Always choose the locations and area of your road trip where EV charger stations are available nearby. Which means if your station is not nearby, then it will take you extra miles to go to your station from your destination. It will cost you more time and price.
